Game Model Builder

A template, not a system to copy. The method is fixed, the answers are yours. Build a game model from your own players and your own decisions.

How to use it. Pick your code, then work through it in order: know your players, study the opposition, set your principles for each moment and each set piece, then the tactics that deliver them. Tap an option to select it, add your own with Other, and write the detail in your own words underneath. Gold marks the fixed method, navy marks where you fill in your own answers. If you would rather see a finished one before you start, use Example Model at the bottom of the page.
Code
The method is the same in both codes. This changes the wording and the options that differ.
1

Know Your Players

Be honest. Not who you wish you had, who you actually have.
Strengths in this group
Limitations to build around
2

The Five Moments

Every game of hurling breaks into these five moments. This is the lens you view everything through, and it does not change.
3

The Principles of Play

For each moment, decide how you want to play it, given your players. This is your principle. Keep it simple. A principle you cannot remember is a principle your players will never use.
4

The Set Pieces

The five moments cover open play. Set pieces are where the plan has to be exact, because every player needs to know their job before the ball is played.
5

Study The Opposition

Last, because it is the only part that changes from week to week. Everything above is how you play. This is what you are about to meet.
What they tend to do
The lowest hanging fruit
What is the one thing they do that causes other teams problems?
How we counteract it
Next step. Take each principle into the Games and Playbook Designer, and build the games that force it to appear in training and the plays that make it exact. Start with the one or two moments that matter most right now. Print the Team Sheet to hand the model to your players on one page.
